It won’t be long before video game humans look this good in real time

Thanks to a technology called separable subsurface scattering (SSS), the next generation of consoles and PCs may have human models that look this good in real time. SSS manages to capture all the subtle light patterns and nuances of human skin and hair, bringing out a lifelike glow that’s more realistic than even the best skin rendering that is common today. And, it’s all rendered in real time. I think I mentioned that bit.
